Russian oil company Tatneft has announced the registration of its first solar energy project in Uzbekistan under India’s Universal Carbon Registry (UCR), marking a new level of cooperation in carbon credit generation across Eurasia. The initiative involves the installation of 0.33 MW of rooftop solar panels at Tatneft’s tire manufacturing plant in Angren, providing clean electricity for production and reducing approximately 206 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. This shift replaces high-carbon grid power with renewable energy for industrial operations.
Tatneft stated that it has already registered 40 climate projects within Russia’s national carbon unit registry and views this cross-border project as part of its broader pivot toward Asian partnerships and low-carbon industrial modernization. The initiative highlights how Russian investment is expanding into Central Asia while leveraging India’s verification systems, reflecting growing interconnectivity among emerging carbon markets across the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region.
