Canada announced it will launch a national sustainable investment taxonomy in 2026 to help classify economic activities as “green” or “transition” aligned with environmental and climate goals. The system, led by the Canadian Climate Institute, aims to guide investors, lenders, and companies, reduce uncertainty in financial markets, attract private capital for climate action, and support the country’s transition to net-zero emissions by 2050. The taxonomy will initially be voluntary and will establish science-based criteria, boosting transparency and helping prevent greenwashing.
